If you think about it, if you dare...what are the basic needs of a child? After all, that child will grow up, Lord willing, to be an adult.
I think of a sprout that just recently came up in one of our flower beds in the back yard. It had really nice leaves so I decided not to pull it up. It grew so fast. From the beginning it was leaning a little to the west and needed to be straighten, but alas, I didn't take the time or energy to straighten it when it was just coming up. A crooked little sprout has now become a very crooked tree, and leaning a lot more to the west.
What did that little sprout need from the beginning? It needed the gardener to lovingly and ever so carefully dig around its roots and straighten it in its dirt foundation. As it grew, having had the proper placement from the beginning, it would have grown tall and straight.
So it is with a that little child. God has designed each one of His creations to be nurtured and lovingly cared for by their parents. Sadly, some don't always get what they need and when they grow up to be adults, they may be tall, but unfortunately they are just a little not straight, crooked.
What is it in your life, in my life, that we needed early on but did not receive? The basic needs that went unmet, that as we have grown and matured have left empty places in the deepest parts of our hearts?
