My old friend Bill

October 28, 2009

Cheryl D called today to tell me that Bill had passed away. He is with the Lord. I am sad. How many times have I thought about him and wondered where he was and what he was doing. Oh how I wish now I would have made the effort to get in touch with him.
Do you have someone like that in your life? If you do, would you please take a few minutes to contact them today? Tomorrow my be too late.

What We Need?

October 10, 2009

If you think about it, if you dare...what are the basic needs of a child? After all, that child will grow up, Lord willing, to be an adult.

I think of a sprout that just recently came up in one of our flower beds in the back yard. It had really nice leaves so I decided not to pull it up. It grew so fast. From the beginning it was leaning a little to the west and needed to be straighten, but alas, I didn't take the time or energy to straighten it when it was just coming up. A crooked little sprout has now become a very crooked tree, and leaning a lot more to the west.

What did that little sprout need from the beginning? It needed the gardener to lovingly and ever so carefully dig around its roots and straighten it in its dirt foundation. As it grew, having had the proper placement from the beginning, it would have grown tall and straight.

So it is with a that little child. God has designed each one of His creations to be nurtured and lovingly cared for by their parents. Sadly, some don't always get what they need and when they grow up to be adults, they may be tall, but unfortunately they are just a little not straight, crooked.

What is it in your life, in my life, that we needed early on but did not receive? The basic needs that went unmet, that as we have grown and matured have left empty places in the deepest parts of our hearts?

ALMOST

July 12, 2009

In Max Lucado's book, "No Wonder They Call Him Savior" he writes, "Pilate almost performed what would have been history's greatest act of mercy. He almost pardoned the Prince of Peace. He almost released the Son of God. He almost opted to acquit the Christ. Almost. He had the power. He had the choice. He wore the signet ring. The option to free God's Son was his, & he did it...almost."

My question today to me is this, what am I ALMOST doing for the Christ?

Am I almost surrendering my all to Him? Am I almost obeying His call on my life?

Am I almost serving others? Am I almost serving Him by serving the ones His has hand picked to be in my life?

What am I, or am I not, ALMOST doing for the One I call my LORD?

Who is it my LORD is calling me to have mercy upon today?

Who is it my LORD is calling me to pardon today?

Who or what is it my LORD is calling me to 'release' today?

What am I going to opt out of today because it is hard or uncomfortable or out of my way or takes to much of my time to do?

What am not going to obey when I hear His voice because, well, I just don't want to!?

I have the choice, and so do you? The option is mine, and yours to do this day. ALMOST is not good enough. Do not withhold good from those who deserve it, when it is in your power to act. Pro 3:27

2 Corinthians 3

June 30, 2009

"...And we have such trust through Christ toward God. Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God, who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life."

Have you ever considered yourself to be a minister? Do you think that title is reserved only for the man wearing the black robe with the white collar preaching on Sunday mornings? If you have been born from Above according the Scriptures, you are a minister of the new covenant and your loving heavenly Father wants to use you. He has given you gifts and talents to use for His glory and the Holy Spirit will lead you and quide you where He desires for you to go.

Are we sufficient in and of ourselves to do big and small things for God? Nope, not even the smallest thing. Our sufficiency is from God. When we are yeilded to Him by the Spirit we don't have to strive to make His will for us come forth, He gives His Life to live through us. That is true freedom.

"...Therefore, since we have such hope, we use great boldness of speech— unlike Moses, who put a veil over his face so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the end of what was passing away. But their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is taken away in Christ. But even to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart. Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord. "

Therefore, since we have such hope, let us, this day, use 'great boldness of speech' led by the Holy Spirit, to proclaim the glorious riches of Christ Jesus our LORD!

Amen
